Professor Steve McLaughlin is Deputy Principal of Research and Impact at Heriot-Watt University, with responsibility for implementing the University's research and innovation strategy across its five campuses. His background is in electronic engineering and his personal research interests lie in signal processing and computational imaging. Prior to taking up his current role, he acted as Head of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences from 2011 to 2020. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the European Signal Processing Association, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal Academy of Engineering. 

Heriot-Watt was founded out of the Scottish Enlightenment and has over two centuries of delivering innovation that benefits society and the economy.
