Dorothy’s substantive roles over her career have been in the areas of human resources and organisational development. Dorothy has a legal background and spent a few years in pensions trusts before moving into what was commonly known as personnel. Working in financial services, higher education and the National Health Service, Dorothy gained executive director experience in leading organisations and developing strategic human resources functions.

Dorothy has always found it very valuable to have non-executive roles alongside executive responsibilities. She has been a board member of a further education college, a lay representative on a committee of the Scottish Legal Aid Board and served as a board member of Edinburgh World Heritage Trust. She is passionate about the city, its heritage and the cultural opportunities the city has to offer. Currently, she has a lay representative role in the NHS as well as an involvement in St Cecilia’s Hall, an eighteenth century concert hall and museum in the heart of the Old Town of Edinburgh.

Dorothy's experience of human resources and organisational development across a range of sectors has been invaluable in understanding the variety of approaches and leadership challenges diverse and complex organisations bring. Working as part of executive teams, Dorothy has brought a wide range of skills, knowledge and experience in strategic and financial planning and risk management; as well as digital transformation, which she finds a fascinating area in which to work. The management of relationships is critical; working in higher education and the National Health Service has given Dorothy a strong insight into regulation, funding regimes and the tactical issues involved in managing relationships.

Dorothy’s further interests include attending classical music concerts, theatre productions and art exhibitions. She has recently taken up playing the piano again after an extended break.

As well as Court, Dorothy is a member of:
