What to expect at our Open Day

An Open Day gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the university experience and discover more about the subject(s) you are interested in studying.

You can meet with staff and students to find out how your chosen subject is taught at Heriot-Watt and explore our beautiful 380 acre Edinburgh campus to get a feel for what student life has to offer here.

Our campus will be buzzing with activities and events and it’s your chance to find out as much as you can about Heriot-Watt University, alongside people who may even become some of your closest friends during your studies here. Prepare to be inspired and get excited about your Higher Education options!

Travel, arrival and check-in

Our Open Days run from 10am till 4pm. The best way to travel to our Open Day is by public transport or by car and you can plan your journey in advance.

Please note the SATNAV postcode is EH14 4AR

Heriot-Watt University staff and students are here to help! On arrival you will be greeted by our Heriot-Watt Student Ambassadors who will be easy to spot in their red t-shirts. Please make your way to the Welcome Marquee outside the Main Entrance Reception where you can collect your Open Day bag with a printed event programme for the day.

Remember to either download or print your ticket so that our Open Day helpers can check you in. Since there is so much to see and do, a comfortable pair of shoes would be useful so you can explore our campus fully.

Open Day activities

Please check the programmes below to get an idea of what will be going on during the Open Day on the date you are planning to attend.  All of the activities on the day are drop-in and unreserved. Please note that we will prioritise prospective students over family and other guests for any activities that become crowded.

We recommend that you plan your day in advance; this will help you to make the most of your time with us. Please allow at least 15 minutes to transfer between activities across the campus.

Guided orientation walks
Follow one of our current students on a guided orientation walk to help you get your bearings and see where all the Open Day activities are located around our campus. Duration: approximately 30 minutes. Tours depart frequently from the GO departure point, last tour departing 3.30pm.
Academic activities
A number of subject presentations will be available throughout the day, delivered by the academics who teach that subject. These aim to give you an insight into what and how we teach at Heriot-Watt.

If you have any questions about a specific subject then please visit the relevant Subject Stand to chat with academics on an individual basis. The Subject Stands will be located in different academic buildings across the campus and will be listed on the event programme map.

Some of our subject areas will also offer a tour of their facilities. You can find out more about the timings of these tours at the relevant Subject Stand on the day.
