Introduction and club history

The Hockey Club has two men’s and two women's teams competing in the British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) leagues on a Wednesday. The club has also recently introduced a third team for each of men’s and women's, which currently are not in the BUCS league but we are hopeful to progress to this level in the future. The club also competes in a recreational league on a Friday night.

After a recent promotion, the men's 1st team compete in Scottish League 1A and is aiming to remain at this high standard. Likewise, the men's 2nd team were promoted to 3A and are aiming for a further promotion next season.

The women's 1st team provide a competitive standard of hockey in League 2A after a recent promotion and narrowly missed out on a further promotion last season. The 2nd team provide the opportunity for a high standard hockey competing in tier 5 Scottish South East.

The recently introduced 3rd teams provide an opportunity for improvement and learning new skills whilst remaining social and recreational with the prospect of moving into the BUCS leagues in the future.

Partnership with Watsonians Hockey Club

The Hockey Club has a partnership with Watsonians Hockey Club which gives Heriot-Watt students further opportunities to play for an Edinburgh side at both national and regional level. Watsonians is a strong hockey club, with five men's teams, training on a Monday and Thursday, and five women's teams; training on a Tuesday and a Thursday. If you are interested in joining Watsonians, please contact any of the committee members, or email the club.

HWUHC are relishing the challenge of a new season, and are striving for promotions all round. If you are a new or advanced player or anywhere in between, please contact us using any of the details below – everyone is welcome!

Our club charter

We aim to provide the following service to all our members:

  • To provide an opportunity for any student to participate in a regular form of hockey appropriate to their desire and ability.
  • To work, in partnership, with WHC to provide opportunities for Heriot-Watt students to compete in Scottish Hockey weekend competition.
  • To provide an opportunity for members to gain a worthwhile social experience through the sport.

What does a typical season involve?

Training

Training is divided between three pitches and consists of 90 minutes of training a week on a Monday night at either Peffermill Sports Complex or Meggetland. The club has introduced a new training slot this year as this will give teams more space to train and also offer a potential venue for Monday night matches.

Women's 3s Women's 1s and 2s
Men's 3s Men's 1s and 2s
