Phil Mannas

5th year

Phil, from Switzerland, is studying Architectural Engineering in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure & Society.

What appealed to you most about studying at Heriot-Watt?

The Campus actually, because unlike many other universities Heriot-Watt’s facilities are located all in one place, plus they are extensive. I was also drawn to Heriot-Watt because I learned that the lecturers provide good one-to-one help for students, not just academically but more generally too.

How has your programme incorporated industry experience?

Studying at Heriot-Watt has given me excellent industry experience. I have a placement in Troup Bywaters & Anders in Edinburgh which was organised through the connections of the industrial panel within the Department.

Do you feel it has prepared you for your chosen career?

Yes, I do. Through my placement I am getting directly involved with the industry and I believe this will help to jump start my career. I plan on becoming a Chartered Engineer, aiming to work in an internationally recognised company, perhaps in the UK or in Switzerland.
