Mohamed Elmahroug

Mohamed Elmahroug from Libya took a Pre-Sessional Academic English course before studying a postgraduate degree.

I count myself lucky that I attended the Pre-sessional English course at Heriot-Watt; the tutors and students were great.

As an MSc student I have found what I was taught in the course extremely useful in my postgraduate degree. Research skills, for instance - at the master’s level an enormous amount of academic writing must be done in order to achieve it successfully. This cannot be met easily if you do not have the necessary academic research skills which I have been taught in that particular course.

In addition to the academic programme there is the social programme, which I liked most. Actually, the School of Social Sciences has a fantastic social programme and it is very popular among students. They have a wonderful organiser, who is working very hard on it and I really enjoyed the programme.

I am truly grateful to all the tutors, students and staff members I met at the School for their help, interest and encouragement at that time.
