Why did you decide to study at Heriot-Watt University?

I am originally from the UK, and I was presented with an opportunity to complete my education at the Dubai Campus instead of Edinburgh In considering Heriot-Watt University as a place for research, my expectations were definitely exceeded in many ways. I admit I was a little worried about how the quality of research would be, nevertheless, soon all my worries faded as Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus proved to be extremely high standard.  The university was able to provide an open-minded, dedicated and friendly environment with a team-working spirit available everywhere.

What do you enjoy most about the programme?

As a part of my programme, I have been able to conduct wind tunnel experiments using lots of 3D-printing as well as design and install a prototype. As an outcome of my research the Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus currently has a prototype rooftop-mounted DAWT that was designed and installed using all in-house capabilities!

What will being a graduate of Heriot-Watt University do for your future?

Professionally, Heriot-Watt University Dubai enabled me to publish the results of my work in the wider research community, present my papers at various conferences and exhibitions. In terms of personal growth, completing a PhD is full of mind-scratching tasks, but with the right support from my supervisors, Dr Hassam N Chaudhry (primary supervisor - Dubai) and Dr Fan Wang (secondary supervisor - Edinburgh) I was able to complete my project and further train my perseverance.

What's been the highlight of your time here so far?

Recently I was fortunate in winning the Judge’s Choice Award for my research at the Future Generation Competition 2018 as part of the Middle East Electricity Exhibition in Dubai, UAE. This was an incredible opportunity for me to be able to present and connect with various faculties in business and industry whilst also raising the profile of the innovative research taking place at Heriot-Watt University.
