Profile
What programme did you study and why did you choose it?
I studied BSc Mathematics, switching programmes from studying BSc chemistry after realising I had more of a natural aptitude for mathematics and enjoyed it more.
How has the University aided your professional and personal development?
The University has aided my overall development tremendously with support from wellbeing services during tough times, especially Kenny Boyd, who was always on hand in my final months. My personal tutor, Andrew White, had answers to my questions and was always available to offer his support. The Career Services team also helped me find and secure my graduate role, which I will be starting in October.
What’s your favourite / most memorable moment from your time as a Heriot-Watt student?
My favourite moment was during my first year when I was a part of the volleyball society and won club of the year. Even though I was fresh to the scene, being so involved with the club in a social sense was amazing and a night I will always remember.
Did you get any careers or employability support during your time at Heriot-Watt?
At the start of my third year, I booked a couple of appointments with Lyndsey (The MACS career officer), who helped point me in the right direction for internships and websites to look for graduate jobs.
What advice do you have for current students?
Ask for help whenever you need it and don’t be scared of the consequences of your actions. Mistakes never define you, it’s how you deal with adversity and setbacks that will reinforce your character and your resolve to achieve what you want from life.
What are you planning to do after you graduate?
I’m currently biding my time working as a bartender at the job I’ve had for the last 2.5 years until I begin my tech transformations graduate role at Accenture in October.
