Heriot-Watt was the first university in the UK to offer a dedicated actuarial science programme, dating back to 1972, and we’re now a highly renowned, world-leading centre in actuarial and financial teaching and research. Heriot-Watt is ranked third in the world for actuarial research.
30% of our teaching staff are qualified actuaries, while others are leading mathematicians, financial mathematicians and statisticians, who are nationally and internationally recognised for their research.
We host the Actuarial Research Centre (ARC) - a ground breaking virtual network of actuarial researchers and partner organisations from around the world which delivers innovative research on behalf of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). Professor Andrew Cairns of Heriot-Watt is ARC’s director. The Centre acts as the focus for postgraduate research and training in actuarial science and quantitative risk management in Scotland.
All our programmes are fully accredited by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
