Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay Global Scholarship Programme

In honour of Malaysian businessman and noble philanthropist the late YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Yeoh Tiong Lay (18th December 1929 – 18th October 2017), his son and proud alumnus of Heriot-Watt, Dato’ Victor Yeoh Seok Kian, the Managing Director of YTL Corporation Berhad, gifted RM5 million to Heriot-Watt University Malaysia to widen the access to quality UK higher education for Malaysians.

Scholars are eligible to apply to study their Year 2 (1 year) at our UK campus at 50% of their tuition fees. Applications to study in the UK are made in the second semester of Year 1. While this scholarship applies to all undergraduate programmes offered in the Malaysia campus, studying in the *UK options are not available for: 

  • Petroleum Engineering – which is not offered at the UK campus
  • International Business Management with Year Abroad – where students need to study at a partner Australian university in their second year.

All applicants need to attend an interview to assess financial need. Interviews are done either face to face on campus, or via Skype. Interview dates will be notified once an application for this scholarship is made.

In support of Malaysia’s aspiration to have 20,000 Data Professionals by the next decade, Heriot-Watt University has committed to provide a three-year scholarship programme for high achieving and deserving students to pursue a Statistical Data Science programme with us.

Financial Hardship Scholarships

For Malaysian students who are eligible for High Acheiver's Scholarship (HAS) only. Scholarships with a fee waiver of 50% or 100% off total tuition fees are available for high achieving Malaysian students who have proof of financial hardship. The scholarships are available for students pursuing both Foundation and Undergraduate studies.

Students applying for the scholarship should have the following before going through an interview for a panel assessment:

  • Excellent academic results (min. eligible for HAS)
  • Proof of financial hardship

Heriot-Watt Alumni Waiver

(For Postgraduate Studies only) A fee waiver of 20% is granted to alumni of Heriot-Watt University who register for postgraduate programmes of study at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. This discount does not apply to the MBA programme and is awarded on receipt of documentary evidence of an undergraduate or postgraduate award from Heriot-Watt University.

Family Discount

(For Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies) A discount of 10% is granted to children and/or spouse of a Heriot-Watt University alumni who register for a programme of study at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia. This discount is also granted to siblings of currently registered students of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia who register for a programme of study at the University. This discount does not apply to the MBA programme and is awarded on receipt of documentary evidence proving the relationship of the registered applicant and the alumnus or student.

Heriot-Watt Corporate Partnership Postgraduate Bursary

The Heriot-Watt Corporate Postgraduate Partnership Bursary is a concession package for students who are applying to our postgraduate programmes in a group of more than 1 from the same company. This is applicable for local, international, part-time or full-time students.

 

How does it work?

  • Up to 3 employees of the same organisation enrolling for any postgraduate programme within the same intake will be entitled for a 25% reduction of fees for all.
  • 4 employees and above of the same organisation enrolling for any postgraduate programme within the same intake will increase the reduction of fees to be 30% for all.

Women in Engineering Scholarship

 

Founded in 1821, we were the first Mechanics’ Institute in the world. We were also the first institution in Scotland to admit women into STEM programmes. Since opening our doors in Malaysia, we’ve made it possible for women in ASEAN region to gain access to quality teaching and learning in the field of Engineering. Committed to widening access, and reducing the gender gap in this field, we have developed this scholarship especially for girls who want to pursue a career in Engineering.

 

Applications are open for the following programmes:

  • MEng Chemical Engineering with Oil and Gas Technology
  • MEng Mechanical Engineering
  • MEng Petroleum Engineering
  • MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • MEng Civil Engineering

The scholarship is for 100% or 50% of tuition fees at the Malaysia campus.

Selection criteria:

This scholarship is open to female students with academic results of at least 2As and 1B in relevant subjects in their A-Levels with a strong passion to pursue Engineering. Application will be assessed based on the applicant's academic achievements, involvement in extra-curricular activities and leadership roles. Applicants will also need to include a personal statement (of 500 words) stating:

  • Your interest in the Engineering field of choice and why
  • Future career aspirations

An interview will be held with the selection committee consisting of representatives from the University between 4 - 11 July 2019.

Heriot-Watt - Velesto Petroleum Engineering Scholarship

 

Since 1974, Heriot-Watt University through its Institute of Petroleum Engineering has contributed towards the advancement of petroleum engineering through its research, consultation and development of sought after graduates by the industry. These contributions has enabled the institute to receive the prestigious Queen's Anniversary Prize in 2015. Committed to work with industry partners to produce industry-relevant and well-rounded graduates, we have developed this scholarship together with Velesto Sdn Bhd (formerly known as UMW Oil and Gas) especially for those who want to pursue a career in Petroleum Engineering.  Velesto shares Heriot-Watt’s vision to continue building quality human capital in this industry and together shape the future of Malaysia’s economy. 

Applications are open for our undergraduate MEng Petroleum Engineering programme (4 years) for the following intakes: 

  • January 2019 intake 

The scholarship is for 100% or 50% of tuition fees at the Malaysia campus.
