Overview

Ranked 2nd (The Times / The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023) and 7th (Complete University Guide 2023) in the UK for Building.

Construction Project Management at Heriot-Watt University is one of the longest-running courses of its kind in the UK, equipping graduates with the theoretical knowledge and practical and technical skills to manage people and projects within the construction industry. Ranked 2nd (The Times / The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023) and 7th (Complete University Guide 2023) in the UK for Building. See our rankings for more information.

To enhance your career prospects and international experience, we are now offering our established and standard one year Construction Project Management Masters over two years through offering a 'with Industry Placement' alternative.

This 'with Industry Placement' option offers a practical experiential element over the traditional one-year degree structure, allowing you to reflect on theory and practice.

This degree is delivered by the Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design, a leading body recognised by the Royal Academy of Engineering. This is one of four such centres established at UK universities that jointly form a national network to demonstrate and exchange best practice in teaching and research for the sustainable built environment.

September 2024 entry

The deadline for applications from UK students is 30 August 2024. For EU and overseas applicants, we guarantee to consider applications submitted by 2 August 2024.

Programme duration

This variant 'with Industry Placement' degree is offered over two years. The taught part of the programme is the same as its standard Construction Project Management Masters counterpart.

The Industry Placement is undertaken between the taught part of the programme and the research dissertation. If you cannot or decide not to do the placement option, then you will revert to the standard programme.

Industry placement

Although, the responsibility of finding a suitable placement lies with you, to support you, we are partnering with construction industry professionals and will provide advice on recruiters who offer placement opportunities. You will also have access to the University's award-winning Careers Service.

Postgraduate Masterclass Series

We’re running a series of free online masterclasses throughout July and early August to showcase our postgraduate taught study options. Take a look at the exciting topics our academic experts will be speaking about and book to attend.

Industry placement

As the placement is credit bearing, to progress onto the placement year you will need to reach the designated attainment status beforehand. If you can progress onto the placement year and do not secure a placement with industry, we will either offer a University based placement (working on an ongoing research project) if possible or transfer you to our standard 1-year Construction Project Management counterpart (without placement). We will support students in finding industry placements and help them get in touch with industry partners.
