Heriot-Watt was chosen as the preferred international partner for Baku Higher Oil School in Azerbaijan and both institutions have entered into a formal Collaborative Agreement. The initial five year contract will involve the development and delivery of undergraduate degrees in chemical and petroleum engineering to around 400 students.
The aim of the partnership is to educate top level graduates for the oil industry through degree programmes appropriate for the needs of the Azerbaijan oil and gas industry. Successful students will gain a dual degree award from Heriot-Watt University and Baku Higher Oil School. The University is also playing a capacity building role, bringing rigorous international standards and quality assurance to the new Baku Higher Oil School which is adopting Heriot-Watt practices and standards.
Heriot-Watt University has extensive experience of transnational education and the successful delivery of academic programmes through international partnerships. We are a specialist institution with an international reputation stemming from both research and teaching activities in the field of engineering relevant to the oil and gas industry.
The collaboration with Baku Higher Oil School is developed and delivered with Heriot-Watt University, through two of our renowned Schools: the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences and the Institute of Petroleum Engineering (in the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society). Both Schools make a significant contribution to global education, business and research in the fields of chemical and petroleum engineering. The combined expertise of both these Schools, together with the high calibre students at Baku Higher Oil School, ensures the successful synergy of world class education with world class opportunities for successful graduates.
