This two-semester programme will provide opportunities to improve your language proficiency through a wide range of authentic academic tasks, such as research proposals, literature reviews and case studies. You will learn how research is carried out and communicated at Heriot-Watt University.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to start the programme in September are IELTS 4.5 (minimum 4.0 all skills).

Programme content

The programme includes mandatory Academic English and Research courses together with options in Background Studies. If you enter with a higher language proficiency (IELTS 5.5/6.0) and a background in management studies, you may choose Management courses as options.

You will be assessed through a wide range of coursework and exams in order to prepare you for the types of assessments you will meet in your degree.

You are required to achieve a mark of 50% (Grade C) overall for the combined coursework and exam components in order to be recommended to proceed to your degree studies at Heriot-Watt University.
