Flexible entry points enable you to start your programme in January and complete in semester 3, prior to the start of your degree. Your language proficiency (IELTS 5.0) means you are ready to study Academic English at a more advanced level.   You will improve your language proficiency as you learn how research is carried out and communicated in your field at Heriot-Watt University.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements to start the programme in January are IELTS 5.0 (minimum 4.5 all skills).

Programme content

The programme includes mandatory Academic English and Research courses together with options in Background Studies. If you enter with a higher language proficiency (IELTS 5.5/6.0) and a background in management studies, you may choose Management as an option course.

You will be assessed through a wide range of coursework and exams in order to prepare you for the types of assessments you will meet in your degree.

You are required to achieve a mark of 50% (Grade C) overall for the combined coursework and exam components to be recommended to proceed to your degree studies at Heriot-Watt University.
