Collaborations with business and industry are at the heart of Heriot-Watt and enhance our ability to provide relevant education. Our distinctive brand of learning and teaching is informed by our industry links and knowledge exchange with leading organisations, and many of our staff are leaders in their area of expertise. From undergraduate to doctoral study there are significant affiliations with business, industry and public service professions sponsoring students and contributing to learning.
We believe this is what sets Heriot-Watt apart and better equips our graduates for the future, giving students access to career-focused degree programmes. 95% of our graduates are in full-time employment or further study within 6 months of completing their degree.
A global experience
The university is one of the most culturally diverse centres of study in the UK. We have a long tradition of welcoming students from all over the world and the largest international student cohort of any Scottish University. We also have an unsurpassed international in-country presence, delivering degree programmes to 11,800 students in 150 countries around the world.
Heriot-Watt offers its students the unique opportunity to spend part of their undergraduate experience studying abroad. This can take the form of Inter-Campus Transfers to our campuses in the UK, Dubai and Malaysia; Erasmus+ programmes enabling students to study in Europe as part of their degree; or Exchange programmes which give you the opportunity to study with one of our international exchange partners for part of your degree situated all over the world.
Opportunities are dependent on your course. Find out more about the GoGlobal programme.
City/Campus experience - the best of both worlds
Our Edinburgh Campus provides everything that students will need and is the home of Oriam, Scotland's Sports Performance Centre. This cutting-edge facility makes Heriot-Watt the training hub for, among others, Scotland's national football and rugby squads, housed in a stunning £33 million purpose-built sports facility.
Edinburgh is a great city to live in and experience. Students make up one fifth of the city's population, so you'll find a huge choice of places to hang out with friends and meet new people, and plenty of amenities catering for diverse interests and tastes. There's a wide range of live music in local pubs to major venues, a diverse club scene with something on every night and numerous bars and cafes for socialising.
The city boasts excellent shops including independent retailers, retro and second hand stores and a wide range of theatres, galleries and museums. Then, of course, Edinburgh is world-famous for its festivals devoted to theatre, film, books, music, science and politics, which attract 1.4 million visitors to the city each year.
