You must enrol annually before the start of the new academic year, regardless of when you first enrolled with the University. The process will activate access to online tools like VISION (virtual leaning environment) and will allow you to register and pay for courses.
When to enrol
If you are studying independently, you should enrol by 16 September 2019 which is the start of the new Academic year.
Online enrolment for 2019/20 will be available from the 1 August 2019 for those eligible to enrol.
You should enrol online by the start date of your programme, unless otherwise instructed by School staff.
Completing your enrolment
There are two stages to online enrolment:
- Online enrolment
- Course registration and payment
Before you enrol for 2019/20, please ensure you have arrangements in place for the payment of your tuition fees and you know which courses you intend to register for.
Find more information on tuition fees. Students with an outstanding debt will not be able to enrol until the debt is paid.
Information on the courses you should register for will be provided by your School.
To access online enrolment you will need your Heriot-Watt Person ID and PIN.
Course registration and payment instructions
You can register and pay for course(s) via the Student Portal (myHWU) once you have completed online enrolment. Consult your programme structure for a full list of available courses on the relevant programme pages on the website or refer to section A11 of the HW Online Student Handbook.
Once the payment has been completed, the Online Student Support Team will check the course selection before updating your record. If you experience any problems or have any questions relating to a credit or debit card payment, please contact the Online Student Support Team.
Students who will have their fees paid for by a sponsor must submit a scanned copy of a current sponsor letter to the Online Student Support Team (on the sponsor’s headed paper). It should confirm the following:
- The sponsor will pay the fees
- Details of where the invoice is to be sent/emailed
- Course details (Course code, Course name, Semester)
