No-one knows more about what it is like to study at Heriot-Watt than our current students. Heriot-Watt offers two schemes which enable new students at Edinburgh Campus to find out what studying here will really be like: E-Mentoring (prior to your arrival) and Peer Mentoring (after you arrive on campus).

If you sign up for our E-mentoring scheme we will match you with a student who is currently studying your subject who will be your E-Mentor. They will be able to provide information about what university is really like from a student perspective, offer top tips for successful study and answer any questions you may have about coming to the University. Your E-Mentor will communicate with you by email until the end of Welcome Week.

E-Mentoring is part of the support that Heriot-Watt provides to students from Widening Participation backgrounds who have either an Unconditional Firm (UF) or a Conditional Firm (CF) offer of a place at Heriot-Watt. For further information contact

Peer mentoring

When you start at Heriot-Watt you can sign up for our peer mentoring scheme.

Peer mentoring is designed to make your transition to University easier. If you sign up we will match you with a current student (your mentor) who has been at Heriot-Watt for at least a year and who is studying the same subject as you (where possible). Your mentor will draw on their experiences and be able to provide you with advice, support and top tips for success. They will be able to answer your questions, including ones you may be uncomfortable asking staff (there is no such thing as a 'silly' question) or direct you to other sources of support in the University if that is appropriate.

New students who have signed up for peer mentoring have found it extremely helpful to have an experienced student they can speak to.
