At the beginning of each academic year, all students are required to enrol with the University.
Enrolment is the process through which you check and update your personal details and agree to the University's terms and conditions. This is a statutory requirement for all universities based in the UK.
The enrolment process is done online and includes confirmation of:
- personal and statistical information
- contact details
- programme details
- contact information for enquiries regarding tuition fees
- acceptance of the University terms and conditions

Who should enrol?
If you are studying a Heriot-Watt University programme through another institute (such as an Approved Learning Partner), you will need to complete the online enrolment but you should contact your local institution in the first instance.
If you are studying independently (distance learning) you should complete the online enrolment unless otherwise instructed.
You can enrol online from 8 August
You must be enrolled before you can access online tools for study such as Vision.
To enrol online you will need the following log-in details:
- Heriot-Watt University Person ID (found on any recent correspondence)
- your date of birth (PIN number)
If you are studying through an Approved Learning Partner they will send us your photo then we will send your card to them to distribute.
If you are studying independently you will be sent your student card if you upload a photograph during online enrolment. If you do not upload a photograph you can email one to email@example.com as a jpeg, pjpeg, gif, png or x-png file. Please make sure you provide your person ID and contact details in the email.
