Disability Service

Disability service support pathway

The Disability Service is here to provide students with advice and guidance and assess support needs.  Our Disability Service Support Pathway outlines what students can expect from the service, and what steps should be taken. If you have any questions about the pathway, or are unsure what to do next, please contact disability@hw.ac.uk.

Showing you have a disability

You need to show medical evidence of your disability before we can put support in place for you at the University. You also need medical evidence to make an application for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA).

The evidence should be from a suitably qualified medical professional, such as an educational psychologist, GP or consultant. It should:

  • be typed on headed paper, signed and dated
  • be written within the past six months
  • give the date of any diagnosis and details on the diagnosis
  • indicate that it has been a longstanding condition and/or it is or is expected to be a long-term condition
  • state that it is likely to impact on your studies, and explain how.

If you do not have this evidence but you received support at school, please send or show us a copy of your school support profile or details of any adjustments you received such as extra time in exams.
