Dr Changhai Wang received his BSc degree in Semiconductor Physics and Devices from Jilin University, Changchun, China, in 1985. He received an MSc degree in Optoelectronic and Laser Devices and a PhD degree in all-optical switching devices, both from Heriot-Watt University in 1988 and 1991 respectively. He was a research associate between 1991 and 1997 at Heriot-Watt University and conducted research in nonlinear optical and photochromic materials, electro-optic polymers and modulators, and optical gas sensors. Dr Wang held a Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship in Optoelectronics in 1997/1998 developing optical gas sensors using infrared semiconductor emitters and detectors. He then joined Imperial College, London, to develop a laser assisted method for flip chip assembly. In 2000 he returned to Heriot-Watt University to take up a lecturer position in microsystem technology. His current research interests include novel methods for fabrication, interconnection, integration and packaging of microelectronic devices, MEMS, sensors, and RF and microfluidic devices.
