Learning Commons 1, (Hugh Nisbet Building)

Opening hours: - 06:00 - midnight, 7 days a week

Staffed services: - Monday - Friday, 11:00 - 16:00 (semester only)

Located on the ground floor of the Hugh Nisbet Building.

The space provides: -

  • State-of-the art digital learning and study facilities
  • Over 200 seats offering a variety and choice of learning and study settings
  • Collaboration and communication technologies, including screens which can be shared amongst users supporting a range of digital sources.
  • Mixed study, with particular focus on collaborative learning facilities.
  • A convenient accessible location.
  • A support service during core hours.
  • 24 charging stations

The Learning Commons is located next to the Elements catering outlet.

Learning Commons 2, (Building 18)

Opening hours: - 08:00 am - 23:00, Monday - Friday. (card access after 19:00 and at weekends)

Located on the top and 3rd floors of Building 18 (previously the Postgraduate Centre).

The space provides: -

  • State-of-the art digital learning and study facilities
  • Approx 100 seats offering a variety and choice of learning and study settings
  • Collaboration and communication technologies, including screens which can be shared amongst users supporting a range of digital sources.
  • Mixed study, with particular focus on collaborative learning facilities.

The Da Vinci cafe is located on the ground floor of Building 18.

Book a room

The following rooms are available and can be booked in advance:

Learning Commons 1

  • 3 Group Study Rooms

Learning Commons 2 [Monday - Friday only]

  • 3 Group Study Rooms

To book Individual and Group Study areas:

  1. Go to the Student Portal and follow the link
  2. Fill in the booking form with your details
    Select the times you require.

You will receive an email with instructions about your booking

Rooms can be booked online up to 3 days in advance and are available for 3 hours per day.

  • Monday - Friday 08:45 – 20:00
  • Saturday – Sunday 10:00 – 19:45

Keys will be issued at the Service Desk on the 1st floor in the library.
All keys must be returned promptly by the end of the booking time.

You can cancel your booking anytime via the confirmation email.

James Watt

  • Semester opening hours:
    • Monday - Friday: 06:00 - 23:00
    • Weekends: 08:00 - 18:00)
  • Out of semester opening hours:
    • Monday - Friday: 08:00 - 22:00,
    • Weekends: Closed
  • Catering facilities available

Student Union

  • Study in the relaxed atmosphere of the union
  • Offering a mix of seating, bars and catering
  • All areas have wifi
  • Bookable committee rooms - see HW Union, room booking for more information.

Crush Areas

  • Located across campus within each School
  • Study and social areas often with vending machines nearby

Central catering areas

  • From cafés to food courts – take your choice.
  • All catering areas have wifi
