Learning and Teaching Innovation
Every year, Heriot-Watt and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education jointly fund a range of Learning and Teaching Enhancement projects that are led by staff and students from across all of the University’s international campuses.
The new 3-year theme of 'Student Transitions' is underway, replacing 'Developing and Supporting the Curriculum' (DSC) which concluded in June 2014. The new theme is designed to support projects that improve the student experience and develop collaborative, interdisciplinary and international projects, focussed on supporting learning transitions. A particular interest at Heriot-Watt is retention and progression as major challenges in education. You can read more about current projects, and see some of the projects previously funded.
To celebrate the outstanding learning and teaching innovation at Heriot-Watt, and share best practice, we host two events annually: the Learning and Teaching Colloquium, and the Learning and Teaching Symposium.
The Symposium showcases Learning and Teaching Enhancement projects, led by Heriot-Watt staff and students, and takes place in October.
The Colloquium brings together staff and students from across Heriot-Watt, with invited speakers to adress a specific theme - in 2016 this theme was 'Graduate Attributes'. This interactive event is designed to share best practice, and engage staff in the University themes and aims for Learning and Teaching.
