We have some dedicated posts that shape and move the agenda forward.

Her role looks toward the entire University Community, spanning staff and students.
  • Tina Donnelly, the Athena SWAN Officer, oversees the University’s approach to progressing Athena SWAN. Her co-ordinates all the University’s activities, working closely with the Deputy Principal (External Relations) alongside Heads of Schools and Service. She also shapes project based interventions.
  • Lorraine Vallance is the University’s Disability Advisor, working within Student Support and Accommodation she is the lead in a team of people providing dedicated support to disabled student within Student Support and Accommodation.

These posts have dedicated functions focusing on areas that impact directly on equality and diversity. We also have teams and across Heriot-Watt that make significant contributions; human Resource Development, Student Support and Accommodation, the Chaplaincy, the Athena SWAN Self-Assessment Team all play an integral part.

Our activity is overseen by the Equality and Diversity Advisory Group, made up of representatives from across the University Community. More information is available on our staff intranet pages.

We progress our equality and diversity activity through outcome focused action plans covering our legal requirements and our Athena SWAN commitments. We also present actions to fulfil Scottish Funding Council gender balance ambitions in the Heriot-Watt University Gender Action Plan.
