Our gender equality activity is all about taking steps to make sure that there are no barriers to anyone progressing and reaching their full potential because of their gender. In fact we go further and we are looking at ways to celebrate the achievements of all at Heriot-Watt.

We recognise that we have some particular issues around the representation of women, particularly across our academics. That's one of the reasons we're so committed to progressing through the Athena SWAN Charter.

Much of our activity is framed through outcome focused action plans covering our legal requirements and our Athena SWAN commitments. We also present actions to fulfil Scottish Funding Council gender balance ambitions in the Heriot-Watt University Gender Action Plan.

We take steps to raise the profile of women at the University to ensure that everyone understands and embraces the concept that equality for women is equailty for everyone. We mark International Women's Day each year and publish an annual Gender Equality Newsletter.
