Throughout October our Edinburgh and Galashiels Campuses will be marking our first Diversity Month. The idea is to have a jam-packed month of activities that celebrate diversity.
Why October? October brings together a number of celebration days including World Mental Health Day and Ada Lovelace Day which both take place on 10 October. October is also Black History Month and 2017 marks 30 years of recognising Black History.
We’re using the month of activites to help raise funds for the SANE Black Dog Campaign which supports raising awareness of mental health issues and provides services for those who need it.
What can you look forward to? So much! Throughout the month we have film, music, wellbeing focused physical activity, a range of training and development alongside exhibitions. Unless otherwise stated our activities are open to everyone. You'll find everything you need to know on this page including how to book events.
We’re splitting the month up with exhibitions and events tailored to themes throughout the month:
- 2-6 October is Work Life Week where many of our events have a focus on balancing work and home-life
- 8-14 October is Mental Health Awareness Week focusing on mental health and wellbeing
- 16-21 October is Black History Week looking to highlight Black History
- 23-27 October is Equality Week focusing on an inspirational gender equality ‘What She Said’ campaign and drawing together equality strands
Central University services alongside the Student Union and the Sports Union, Oriam and HWU Transition are all part of the team bringing Diversity Month to life.
