Roles and responsibilities

Olwyn teaches EAP to students on applied science, engineering and management degrees. She also teaches social science research methods to postgraduate students studying translation and strategic project management.

Olwyn administers the in-sessional scholarship classes for taught postgraduate programmes in the School of Social Sciences and provides the academic linkage for the Academic English courses on the External Programmes.

Olwyn Alexander worked as a research chemist in the pharmaceutical industry for 15 years before changing career to teach English for specific and academic purposes in further and higher education.

Further information

Olwyn has collaborated with two colleagues to develop two corpus-based distance learning courses: Academic English for Business and Academic English for Science and Engineering, which are offered through Approved Learning Partners (ALPs) of Heriot-Watt’s External Programmes.

Olwyn was also responsible for overseeing the development of the BALEAP Framework of EAP Teacher Competencies and is currently Chair of BALEAP.
