The School of Social Sciences had an amazing time welcoming our new Postgraduate students to Heriot-Watt University with a party in one of Edinburgh’s most unique venues, The Caves.

Around 250 students from the School of Social Sciences came to party underground in Edinburgh’s Historic Old Town and there was a great atmosphere with guest enjoying the drinks, music and canapes.

It wasn’t long before everyone was chatting thanks to our Chatter-Box Challenge, a competition to see who could meet the most new people, getting their name, degree, nationality and fun-fact.

The fun-facts were a great way for our students to get to know more about each other and they revealed some of the interesting expereinces our international cohort of students have enjoyed before coming to Heriot-Watt.

Some of the best fun-facts revealed that one student once tried to free a circus pony, one had climbed a volcano in India, one speaks 6 languages and one was previously a radio producer!

The Chatter-Box Challenge was won by Oliver, Lena and Alex who managed to meet 72 students and staff members during the evening, picking up a bottle of champagne, a Heriot-Watt Teddy and a Heriot-Watt mug as a reward for their mingling!

Welcome Week has given the School of Social Sciences a chance to introduce our new students to their Programmes and lecturers, and our Postgraduate Welcome Event was the perfect way to bring it to an end.
