Undergraduate level

Our undergraduate level degrees bring the teaching of business management to life and provide students with the skills and expertise they will need to thrive in the positions, organisations and industries of the future.

We aim to reflect the current thinking and practices of successful organisations and their leaders by taking the innovative approach to university level education; combining theoretical, experiential and experimental knowledge. This puts the cutting-edge business theory at the heart of our learning experience through a ‘real-world filter’ of regular industry speakers and case-study driven assignments.

A distinctive feature of our undergraduate programmes is the Professional Development Track. This is a set of practice-focussed courses which have been designed to ensure that all our graduates, as global citizens, are ready to add value to their prospective employers. Professional Development Track develops the student’s business skills in Year 1 and their understanding of how management theories enact in practice in Year 2. The focus then moves on to business analysis and consulting skills in Year 3 before global trends and ethics are understood in the student’s Honours Year.

Developing global citizens of the future

Heriot-Watt University’s unique Go Global project is fully available to those studying our Undergraduate International Business Management degrees, meaning our students can study one or more semesters of their degree across our three main campuses in Edinburgh, Dubai and Malaysia. The chance to travel, study and gain experience in three different countries with very different cultures helps prepare our students to become global citizens and stand out in recruitment markets following graduation.

Our MA in International Business Management with a Year Abroad offers students further scope to gain global experience as they study the entirety of Year 3 at one of partner institutions in one of our partner institutions worldwide.

Postgraduate level

At Postgraduate level we offer specialist Masters (MSc) degrees which can transform a student’s employability or set them on course for further academic pursuits at PhD level.

Our Postgraduate programmes are designed to offer students genuine choice in the courses they take - providing flexibility to build specialist knowledge in each subject area and to directly match career ambitions.

The course content of our degrees is sourced directly from the extensive industry experience of our staff and from the world-leading research conducted by our academics across our areas of specialism.

We work in close partnership with Professional Accrediting Bodies and industry leaders through a dedicated Industry Advisory Board to ensure that our MSc programmes provide students with cutting-edge knowledge to fine-tune their skillset and give them an edge in the employment market.
