Economics at Heriot-Watt has close links to industry-leading organisations such as the World Bank and British Petroleum (BP). Each year our researchers and academics work closely with BP preparing data for their annual BP Statistical Review of World Energy.
Dr Catherine Porter has conducted extensive research for the World Bank on poverty in Africa. We also have external links with the Bank of England, the European Central Bank, Edinburgh and Glasgow City Councils, Hometrack, Independent Projects Analysis (IPA) LLC and Timberlake Consultants.
The Centre for Finance and Investment holds an Annual Debate. The Annual Debate is a high-profile event bringing together leading academics and expert practitioners to debate key current issues relevant to the financial community. CFI’s Annual General Meeting fosters relevant quality research informed by financial industry experts. The Department also has links to the Ethical Finance Hub, which participated in the CFI Annual debate and received press coverage in the Scotsman Newspaper. Our Accounting degree and its courses are accredited by a number of institutions for exemptions from some professional examinations:
- Accredited by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) for the purpose of exemptions from some professional examinations.
- Accredited by the Association of International Accountants (AIA) for the purpose of exemption from some professional examinations.
- Accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) for the purpose of exemption from some professional examinations through the Accredited degree accelerated route.
