What we do

We develop and analyse new numerical methods, with application areas ranging over :

  • complex multiphase flow in porous media and reservoirs
  • electromagnetism
  • magnetohydrodynamics
  • meteorology
  • finance
  • neuroscience
  • population and disease dynamics

We have expertise in the full range of numerical techniques with research in:

  • numerical linear algebra
  • the discretization of elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs)
  • time dependent PDEs and stochastically forced PDEs
  • ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and stochastically forced ODEs
  • integral equations.

We seek algorithms that exploit parallel and supercomputer architectures and collaborate on NAIS: The Centre for Numerical Algorithms and Intelligent Software

We have regular research seminars and visitors. The group has many active links with other departments within the university and strong links to the other research groups such as:
