On Friday 27th March the Heriot-Watt University Robotics Lab, part of the Edinburgh Centre for Robotics, held their first Research Open day. The all-day event was a huge success and took place at the Edinburgh Conference Centre with more than 40 people attending.
Organised by Dr Patricia Vargas and Dr Katrin Lohan (Director and Deputy Director of the Robotics Lab) the event was aimed at students and academics from Heriot Watt University and other institutions who are interested in Robotics.
The day was opened with a talk by Professor Ruth Aylett who showed video demonstrations of some of the exciting robotics projects already underway at Heriot-Watt University.
Invited talks were given by Professor Angelo Cangelosi (Plymouth University) on interdisciplinarity of Robotics research, Dr Marc Hanheide (University of Lincoln) who highlighted the applicability to consumer targeted products and Dr Micael Couceiro (University of Coimbra) who presented how research can be linked to industry through spin-out companies.
The day also included a number of presentations and talks from Heriot-Watt academics and post graduate students, panel discussions and networking slots.
