MACS celebrated Ada Lovelace Day on Wednesday, October 11th (the day after the official Ada day) with an event to highlight the historic occasion in the Department of Computer Sciences where the representation of female professors doubled from two, Ruth Aylett and Fairouz Kamareddine, to four with the promotion of Verena Rieser and Helen Hastie.
A wonderful afternoon with superb speakers and an engaged audience
These four professors discussed how they ended up in computing at Heriot-Watt: the education and career choices they made, their experiences of working in computing both in industry and academia, and the interesting and sometimes unexpected twists and turns their lives and careers have taken.
The event was aimed at students in all years and stages, and for staff, both academic and non-academic. Dr Tessa Berg commented that the event was "A wonderful afternoon with superb speakers and an engaged audience."
This independent event was part of Ada Lovelace Day, a worldwide celebration of women in STEM. You can follow them on twitter: @findingada
