At Heriot-Watt our postgraduate courses reflect our expertise in optics, photonics, quantum physics, nano-technology and bio-photonics.

We offer a Postgraduate Taught Masters in Photonics and Optoelectronic Devices.  This MSc is run in partnership with St-Andrews University deparment of Physics and Astronomy, and includes a summer project that is usually based in industry.

Our research degrees include traditional PhD and industry focussed Engineering Doctorates (EngD).

In the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences PhD research is organised by research institute, and the majority of physics PhDs are based in the Institute of Photonics and Quantum Sciences or the Institute of Institute of Biological Chemistry, Biophysics and Bioengineering.

We are also part of multi-University doctoral training centres that offer PhD studentships.  Please see Doctoral Training Centre in Condensed Matter for details.

Our industry aligned Engineering Doctorate is organised through the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Applied Photonics.
