Dawn joined Heriot Watt University in August 2009 as a Technologist for SUPA and has since become involved in teaching with a particular interest in the practical laboratories.
Dawn obtained an MSci in Laser Physics and Optoelectronics from St Andrews University in 1997 and continued there to obtain a PhD in 2000 on ‘Carrier transport, ultrafast spin dynamics and polarisation switching in InGaAsP multiple quantum wells’, with publications under the maiden name of Marshall.
In 2001 Dawn worked for a Heriot Watt spin out company designing semiconductor optical amplifiers for the telecommunications industry. In 2002 she joined BAe Systems as a Senior Laser Engineer where she was responsible for the design and development of diode pumped solid state lasers for target illumination and designation. From 2005 to 2009 Dawn took a career break to raise a family and has now returned to academia.
