Surface nucleation and growth investigation of sulphate scale on Hastelloy coupons. This involves examinations of morphology alterations, elemental compositional changes in the surface and bulk crystals, the loss of scale inhibitor performance and the effect of additives, after residence times of 2 and 22 hours under both laminar and turbulent flow conditions. Another area of expertise is ICP-OES analysis in salty brines for anions, cations and scale inhibitor species that can potentially be detected by ICP. If the scale inhibitor species does not include in its structure or is not tagged with, an ICP detectable element then wet chemical analysis is required, in which I am heavily involved.

  • 1993-1994: Working within the Oilfield Scale Research Group (OSRG), as a laboratory based technician doing scale inhibitor and cation analysis using UV Spectrometry and ICP Spectroscopy.
  • 1994-1996: Part time MPhil student studying the adsorption properties of some novel scale inhibitors and a laboratory based technician within the OSRG, obtaining a working knowledge of SEM and dynamic core flooding.
  • 1996-present: Research Fellow/Laboratory Manager within the FAST group.
