Water-Alternating-Gas Simulation

Abstract

The key challenge for the oil industry in terms of EOR simulation is not the technology itself but the understanding of the process to be modelled. Therefore, in my research I will focus on modelling process, which means the initialisation and calibration of reservoir simulation models.

The aim is to come up with a unique process yielding more accurate and fit-for-purpose models suitable for WAG projects, in particular for fractured carbonate reservoirs. Significant amounts of oil reserves worldwide are discovered in naturally fractured reservoirs. The complexity of fluid flow physics in fractured carbonate reservoirs is yet to be understood. Hence the deeper understanding of capillary and gravity forces interaction that will be generated in this project will lead to better modelling and improved prediction accuracy in fractured carbonate reservoirs.
