Socio-economic Impacts of Urban Flood in The City of Sharjah: Towards Strategic Approach to Spatial Planning

Abstract:

Rapid urbanization, climate change, and durability of physical infrastructure are three main challenges many cities face.  Sharjah is a modern city located in the UAE that had achieved great success in preserving and expanding the urban fabric of the city.  In recent years, urban flood became a growing repetitive concern every year.  Thus, the research aims to investigate the socio-economic impact of urban flood on Sharjah city and proposes sustainable solutions to preserve the safety and wellbeing of the city.
