Environmental research

With an interdisciplinary emphasis, environmental research in the School of Life Sciences extends from the deep-sea through the coastal zone to Antarctic soils, with applied research grouped in three main areas:

Terrestrial environmental sciences

Terrestrial Environmental Science (TES) research focuses on soil ecology and the biogeochemistry of polar, agricultural and the biogeochemistry of polar, agricultural and urban systems.

Nanomaterials and the environment

Nanotechnology involves the development and use of materials and objects at the nanoscale (1-100nm). Within SLS, the Nano Safety Research Group (NSRG) specialises in the assessment of nanomaterial hazard to the environment.
