At Heriot-Watt we recognise that there is a need for professionals to develop their knowledge and skills alongside work and other commitments. Studying a postgraduate degree via Online Learning allows individuals to obtain new knowledge and update existing skills. Integrating their study with full-time employment, your employees' new skills and knowledge can immediately benefit your organisation.

Online Learning: how does it work?

Study via Online Learning allows your employees to study for a high-quality, internationally recognised qualification when and where it best suits them, working from course material made available online through Heriot-Watt's Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Although Online Learning is a flexible mode of study, this does not mean that students will be without support. Our team of academic staff, independent distance learning tutors and our dedicated administration team will provide students with equivalent support as received by our on-campus students.

Why Heriot-Watt University?

The School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Environment at Heriot-Watt prides itself on providing intellectually demanding, industry-focussed programmes of relevance to the built environment professions. All of our programmes are focused on the needs of business and industry, which is why employers actively seek out our graduates.

We enjoy strong links with industry through programme advisory committees, membership of professional bodies as well as mentoring schemes and guest lectures. These strengths are reflected in our Postgraduate Programmes, which currently have over 800 students studying these programmes via Online Learning.
