Why did you decide to study your Masters at Heriot-Watt University?

Heriot-Watt University is renowned for education and research in the field of petroleum engineering. It is also a truly international university where everyone is welcome. I decided to do my MSc degree in Reservoir Evaluation and Management, a unique and integrated programme that has transformed my career. During this period I had the opportunity to work with researchers from what has become the Carbonate Reservoir group. They worked on interesting subjects using cutting-edge technology but more importantly they were friendly, helpful and fun to work with that I decided to continue my higher education at Heriot-Watt University.

What was your experience of studying your PhD with the Carbonate Reservoirs group at Heriot-Watt University?

I liked the integrated and collaborative nature of the Carbonate Reservoirs Group team. We were a group of mathematicians, geo-scientists and engineers tackling different but related problems at different scales (from pore-, core-, intermediate scales to reservoir and basin scales). Help was available from the group leaders during weekly meetings and continuously from colleagues. A sense of family has evolved that remains between the team members even after graduation. It was an exceptional period for learning, skills development and making friends.

Can you tell us a bit about what you're currently doing?

I am currently a senior reservoir engineer working at Schlumberger's Abingdon Technology Center. I look after reservoir engineering applications support specially fractured and unconventional reservoirs, I am involved in field development planning and reservoir simulation projects with clients and customers. I also develop and deliver training courses and help in the commercialization of new reservoir engineering software products.
