Heriot-Watt University is one of 12 universities across the country to receive a Strategic Support to Expedite Embedding Public Engagement with Research (SEE-PER) grant from Research Councils UK.

The SEE-PER projects aim to enrich and embed cultures where excellent public engagement with research (PER) is more effectively and strategically supported.

The project at Heriot-Watt, led by Professor Garry Pender (Deputy Principal for Research & Innovation), Dr Laura Wicks (HW Engage), and Dr Ryan Woolrych (EGIS), looks to explore how we can better engage the public in our research, and how to create a publicly engaged university of the future.

In 2017-18, we will be consulting our local communities, to help better understand both what they want in terms of Public engagement and also better understand our own place in the community and our purpose. We will also consult widely with our university colleagues to understand what they do, and why, in terms of public engagement and try to understand the challenges and barriers faced.

Further information is available on the RCUK website and by contacting HW Engage.
