Changes to Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) submissions Date:

Heriot-Watt is one of the leading Scottish universities for KTPs and we enthusiastically encourage participation.

This year InnovateUK is moving to themed sector competitions, instead of the usual open calls, so it is important to know the details and start the application process in good time.

The East of Scotland (EoS) KTP Centre and Research and Enterprise Services (RES) have organised a Coffee, Cake and KTP session on Wednesday 22 February to explain the changes and give advice.

The excellence of the EoS KTP Centre, in managing the application process, is a reason we are so successful but it can take months to go through the process to full submission so applications should be started as soon as possible, through the Energy Academy or RES.

There are now four sectors, each with two competitions a year plus two open competition calls - making a total of ten submission deadlines per year, instead of the current six.

The themes are broad in scope and generally aligned to InnovateUK definitions so some KTP projects may overlap sectors. These and the current closing dates are:

  • Health and Life Sciences (including food and drink) - 12 April
  • Emerging and Enabling Technologies - 10 May
  • Materials and Manufacturing - 23 June
  • Open call - 9 August: to include any technology, engineering or industrial area, including InnovateUK’s four priority sectors for growth
  • Infrastructure systems – 13 September

All academic colleagues interested in Knowledge Transfer with industry partners are strongly encouraged to attend the session, for full details on the sectors and applications.

Please confirm your attendance to by Friday 17 February.
