Getting Started: Essential Skills for Researchers

This half-day course is for PGR students within 6 months of starting their doctorate. The course will help students to develop essential skills they will require for their doctorate. It will provide students with an overview of the stages of a doctorate, and provides students with tools and techniques for project and time management, and developing a Personal Development Plan. The course will also explore some common issues experienced by PGR students, imposter syndrome and sources of support at Heriot-Watt.
By the end of this course, students will:
- Understand the stages of a doctorate,
- Understand principles of project and time management,
- Understand how to develop their own Personal Development Plan, and
- Understand common issues and sources of support at Heriot-Watt University.
