Heriot-Watt’s reputation for excellence in teaching has been bolstered today after being named in the UK’s top 25 universities for Engineering and Technology subjects.

In the latest Times Higher Education World University rankings, the institution saw its Engineering and Technology programme rise into the grouping of 201-250 in the world and in 24th place in the UK.,

The annual awards uses 13 calibrated performance indicators to examine universities across four areas including teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

This year's ranking included a record 1,512 universities from 93 countries and regions, making the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.

Professor Richard A. Williams, University Principal and Vice-Chancellor, said: “The continued recognition of our high quality teaching and research in Engineering and Technology areas underlines our reputation as one of the world's leading universities, and stands as testament to the hard work from all our colleagues in our five campuses in three countries.

“We are immensely proud of our international standing and in these challenging times, we have a solid foundation to build on to ensure we continue to deliver the best possible learning and teaching experience for all our students.”

Ellie Bothwell, Global Rankings Editor & International Reporter, THE, commented: “With Covid-19 disrupting student decision-making about where, when or what to study, these rankings demonstrate that there are many places in the world to achieve a first-class education, either at home or abroad. While those looking to study abroad can’t go wrong by continuing to look to the established educational powerhouses of the US and the UK, and the continually rising quality of Canada and Australia, these tables make it clear that there are various other places to consider if you want to study in a specific discipline. With more institutions than ever included, it’s testament to the growing strength of the higher education sector across the globe.”

The University also maintained its rankings in the areas of Computer Science 301-400, Life Sciences 201-250 and Physical Sciences 301-400.
