Dr Huei Ching Soo, promoted to Associate Professor via the Teaching and Scholarship track, joined the University in August 2014.

She has demonstrated both significant academic leadership and excellence in learning and teaching. She was appointed the first Programme Director for the BSc in Actuarial Science in 2014 and Associate Head of School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences in Malaysia from 2017-2019. She won the “MACS Best Lecturer Award” in 2016/17 given by Heriot-Watt University Malaysia Student Association. I truly appreciate the resources and support I have received from the school and colleagues. The University has provided me with the great opportunity to learn and grow. I will continue to contribute with my knowledge, motivation to further develop my research, support my colleagues and inspire students.

Dr Huei Ching Soo

Soo's previous research area was in queuing theory. For the past few years, her research work focuses on financial modelling and forecasting. Recently some of the problems that she plans to solve are the prediction of inflation rate using latent factors derived from the macroeconomic variables. The results on future inflation rates are useful for decision making by the researchers as well as the actuaries. Soo is a life member of Malaysia Institute of Statistics (ISM).

I am very pleased to be part of the Heriot-Watt team and to be promoted in recognition of the past few years with the University.
