Professor Ir. Dr. Denny K. S. Ng

Heriot-Watt University Malaysia recently welcomed a new member to its league of academics. Professor Ir. Dr. Denny K. S. Ng joins the university's prestigious line-up as its newly appointed Associate Head of the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, and will be officially taking over from Dr. Noor Yusmiza Yusoff at the start of the new year. 

Professor Mushtak Al-Atabi, Provost and CEO of Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, said “We are very excited to welcome Professor Ir. Dr. Denny K. S. Ng on board the Heriot-Watt family. He will be charged with growing the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences in size, reputation and impact through involvement in its enrolment, teaching innovation, students' experience and research output.”

Professor Ir. Dr. Ng is a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Chemical Engineering degree holder from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and has completed his PhD in the University of Nottingham, Malaysia. He is well published, with over 150 papers with an h-index of 33. His areas of specialisation include optimisation of the sustainable value chain of the palm oil industry, energy management, resource conservation via process integration techniques, synthesis and analysis of biomass processing and integrated bio refineries.  

I am pleased and excited to be part of Heriot-Watt University, especially the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Viewing the strengths of the school and its active and dynamic staff members, I believe we will be able to deliver high quality education to our future generation and create impact to the society and communities around us.

Professor Ir. Dr. Denny K. S. Ng

Professor Ir. Dr. Ng brings over 15 years of experience to Heriot-Watt's Putrajaya campus. He had previously served as Head of Business Engagement and Innovation Services (BEIS) and Professor of Process Design and Integrated Biorefinery at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, and was the Founding Director of the Centre of Sustainable Palm Oil Research (CESPOR) at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia. He is also a fellow of The Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom (UK); Chartered Engineer of the Engineering Council, UK; Professional Engineer in the Board of Engineers, Malaysia (BEM); Exco member of Young Scientist Network - Academy of Sciences Malaysia (YSN-ASM); and Exco member of Alumni Yayasan Tun Abdul Razak, Malaysia. 

In recognition of his many contributions, he has garnered many awards and accolades through the years. Among others, he was named as one of the Top Research Scientists Malaysia (TRSM) in 2018 and a recipient of The 1st World Wu Clans Excellence Award 2017; Ten Outstanding Young Malaysians Award (TOYM) 2017 (Scientific and Technological Development); Junior Chamber International (JCI); Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM) Young Engineer Award 2015; Three Outstanding Young Persons of Negeri Sembilan (3OYP.NS) Awards, JCI 2014; and Global IChemE Young Chemical Engineer of the Year 2012. 

Apart from focusing on research and development (R&D), Professor Ir. Dr. Ng has also applied his R&D output in industrial consultation projects. To date, he has received more than RM2 million in research grants from government and industries to develop his research and commercialise the outputs.
