Heriot-Watt has maintained its position in the 2020 Complete University Guide.

The Guide, published today (Wednesday May 1), ranks the University in 35th place in the UK and in sixth spot overall for Scotland.

A total of 10 criteria are used by the Complete University Guide to measure a university's performance, including Student Satisfaction, Research Quality, and Spending on Academic Services.

This resulted in Heriot-Watt being ranked in the top ten in three subject areas in the UK:

  • Building
  • Mathematics
  • Town and Country Planning and Landscape Design.

Within Scotland, the University is in the top three in the following subjects:

  • Building
  • Art and Design
  • Chemical Engineering
  • Town and Country Planning
  • Iberian Languages
  • Mathematics.

Heriot-Watt is also the top university in Scotland and third in the UK for the amount spent on student facilities such as careers service, sports, health and counselling support.

Professor Richard A. Williams, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University, said: “We are pleased that our University has maintained its position but we are never complacent.

“We remain committed to building on our reputation as a top quality international University known for exceptional teaching and learning opportunities and world-leading research.”

Heriot-Watt is ranked top in Scotland for graduate salaries six months after graduation by The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

The complete University Guide ranks UK universities both nationally and in 70 subject areas.
