Professor Mercedes Maroto-Valer has received an award for services to sciences and technology

Professor Maroto-Valer from Heriot-Watt's Research Centre Carbon Solutions (RCCS), was named the winner for services to science and technology at the 2019 Scottish Women's Awards held on Wednesday, August 28.

Over 300 people attended the award ceremony at Glasgow Crowne Plaza Hotel, where inspiring women were rewarded for their successes over the last year.

The Awards honoured the talent and hard work of female professionals and entrepreneurs across Scotland. It celebrated the achievements of women entrepreneurs, business women, professionals, civil servants, charity workers and others that make Scotland a great and more equal place to live and work.

The night highlighted the achievements of women in many roles across sectors of industry including business, sport, technology, management and charity.

Professor Maroto-Valer is the first Robert Buchan Chair in Sustainable Energy Engineering at Heriot-Watt University and is Associate Principal (Global Sustainability) and Director of the Research Centre for Carbon Solutions (RCCS).  She leads a team of over 50 researchers at RCCS bringing forward solutions to achieve net-zero targets

Speaking after receiving the award Professor Maroto-Valer said: “I am very honoured to receive this 2019 Scottish Women's Award. It was inspiring to see so many talented women making an impact across different sectors in Scotland.  Thank you to all the team for making this award possible.”
