Top team of female entrepreneurs on Dubai trade mission

A top team of female entrepreneurs with close links to Heriot-Watt University – recently attended a trade mission in Dubai.

Six businesswoman, including two from the university, took part in the trip which was organised in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and Investing Women.

The top team from Heriot-Watt included Dr Ifey Kanu and Dr Monika Tomecka.

Ifey runs IntelliDigest, which works with automated food recycling equipment to help businesses avoid food waste while Monika Tomecka runs spin out company uFraction8 who have developed a highly innovation filtration system capable of separating bacterial and other biological cells from liquid.

The six-strong group enjoyed a tour at Heriot-Watt Dubai and met with the Scottish Government Trade Envoy to find out how their businesses could work in the United Arab Emirates region.

Dr Gill Murray also held a session on how to do business in the area and potential growth markets. The academic also delivered a presentation on pitching for business, which was to prepare the group for pitching at the British Embassy.

Speaking about the trade trip, Dr Murray said: “This was a highly successful and fascinating trip for everyone involved.

“The mission highlighted the potential for growth in the UAE and gave inspiration to our very talented female entrepreneurs.”

Investing Women is Scotland's only all-female business angel group and a dynamic and growing community of women angel investors and entrepreneurs.

The group's CEO and Founder is Jackie Waring, an accomplished businesswoman who has advised the UK Government on encouraging and supporting female entrepreneurialism.
