Top fashion designer delivers fashion masterclass

A well-known fashion designer and tailor dropped by to deliver a fashion masterclass to students at the Heriot-Watt School of Textiles and Design, this week.

Patrick Grant, best known as a judge on the BBC Two reality show The Great British Sewing Bee, spoke to fashion students about manufacturing and sustainability.

It's not the first time, the renowned designer has visited the School – he was made an honorary graduate in 2017.

Other career highlights include rejuvenating the fortunes of Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons in 2005.

He also won Menswear Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2010, and is behind the menswear line Hammond & Co at Debenhams.And the master tailor is well known for his views on fashion and sustainability, as he recently launched a not-for-profit clothing initiative to support British manufacturers.

Professor Fiona Waldron, Head of School said: “We were delighted to welcome Patrick back to our campus in Galashiels. Both students and staff were delighted to see him and learn from his expertise and knowledge.”

Patrick Grant said: “We have an amazing record of producing creative talent in this country. I'm thrilled to be supporting the next generation at Heriot-Watt.”
